Review: C. S. A. Confederate States Of America: A Novel

C. S. A. Confederate States Of America: A Novel
C. S. A. Confederate States Of America: A Novel by Howard B. Means
My rating: 1 of 5 stars

I thought when I stumbled across this book that it would be really good. It is a look at what the world might be like if the Civil War had turned out differently. I thought however, though that it would have been MUCH better. I thought they needed more details and background of how life really was… I thought that it would have more lessons to teach… The writing style left much to be desired and jumped around so much that I had a very hard time following what was even going on. I thought the characters were good but needed to be built up more, or rather just more information about them. It was sad to see how much segregation that had still existed and how much was ‘forbidden’. There was one point that went into details about the public face that had been put on a certain area vs the reality… I thought it could have been much better if the back story had been included more of how it happened… or who the rebels really where and what they were doing other than hiding. I thought that the fact that the Yankee Territory was so desolate and nothing more had ever developed… the whole thing just didn’t flow well and were so bizarre and un-realistic. I did like though that at the end they were fighting for more of a uniting of the people … but still could have delved more into that as well… I’m a personally a fan of mixed relationships. They are fun and bring a lot of new things to live and to attention. As far as I’m concerned – people are people no matter where they are born or what they look like and we should treat them as such. This book really left a lot to wanting…
