Read 11 times. Last read April 14, 2019 to June 5, 2019.

I have read this over and over! The last time I read it I believe was in 1990! That’s when I lost our copy – but it’s one of those that simply stick in your head! It’s much different from the Disney telling we are used to – and of course much better! 🙂 I have been searching for a new copy for the last 20 years…

When the new Marry Poppins movie came back, these popped up on Audible, and I of course purchased all in English I could.

The rest of the stories that were written with this were great as well! 🙂 I think everyone needs to read the real version at least once. 🙂

I definitely enjoyed re-listening to these. However, I think I’ve lost a bit of the magic… perhaps too much reality in my life. After 30 years of not reading theses. They were challenging and I could only listen a bit at a time. There is the large possibility that the reader changed from the version I listened to in the 80s, which we all know could have had a dramatic influence.

Either way, still fun stories and good experience.

Wild Rover No More – Highest Ranked Review on GoodReads!

Woah! I just realized, thanks to GoodReads, that my Review of “Wild Rover No More” was the highest ranking review of the final book of this very popular series!! How fun is that?!

Wild Rover No More: Being the Last Recorded Account of the Life & Times of Jacky Faber (Bloody Jack, #12)
by L.A. Meyer

6883900

2 years ago, while working in San Fran my honey & I started listening to the book Bloody Jack. WOW! So fabulous!! We have since bought the entire series on Audible and hung on every word since. Only allowing ourselves to listen to a book every few months so that we didn’t blow through the whole series in less than 6 months.
We have since traveled the US with her and crossing points and traveling along the Mississippi, that she did and walking the same streets, just because that’s where our life took us. Jacky made the history come alive and be more real in those areas. (Especially NOLA and the Mississippi, Gulf of Mexico & the Caribbean).
What a FABULOUS ride dear Jacky “Oh! Yes it was!” with 2 hours left of the final book, I have been in tears countless times, as I remember this great journey, and my heart aches to hear the ending. (NO  SPOILERS). Then I get extra tears because I HATE the end of series even more than stand alone books. These dear characters that I have grown to love and be on each ship, each adventure, each heartache, each and every scene is coming to an end. I won’t get to see my friends anymore, there are no more adventures that await with our spunky little Pirate, and cast of characters.
How grateful I am though, that we were blessed to go along for the ride. Thank you L.A. Meyer for bringing Jacky to life, for creating her world, and mostly sharing her with all of us. There were so many lessons learned, courage shared and encouragement to carry on in the darkest of hours…. I HATE the end of series!! So grateful we can visit her again and that she will forever live on through your words, and our hearts.
Hands down, my favorite series and that was HARD to beat! If you haven’t read Bloody Jack – you need to! 🙂 ❤

Soul Felt Laughter!

Laughter...

Laughter… (Photo credit: leodelrosa…)

Originally written September 28, 2012. Only saved as draft, and never posted. It was too fun to not post now. 🙂 Enjoy

I love love to laugh!

It really is one of the greatest things in the world. I’m the type of person when something really tickles my funny bone, I laugh hard and full and a bit hysterically. I absolutely enjoy it… although my face turns incredibly red and I tend not to be able to breathe for minutes… But it truly is one of the greatest things around and the simplest things make me happy and I’m constantly finding reasons to laugh.

Not to mention all the health related studies that actually tell us that Laughter is good for more than our souls, it’s fantastic for our bodies, minds and hearts too! We feel better because it burns calories and releases endorphins throughout our systems – and who doesn’t love a good endorphin release right?

Today’s reason was I got this funny little Kindle Book full of funny text messages. I nearly died just imagining the responses….

40 people did not respond. 😦 I’m sure they just didn’t know how to react! I mean after all what would you think if you got a random text in the middle of a Wednesday from a friend claiming that they just found out that Elvis was dead?! After all it is 2012… he died in 1977! Despite the rumors, beliefs and myths that he’s simply in hiding…

The Essential Elvis Presley

The one text message I sent out was:

“I just realized Elvis died…. I’m very upset over this and don’t feel so great… How are you handling it?”

Here are some of how the conversations went:

  • My Mother simply called me back, “Jennifer, Elvis died before you were born. What are you talking about? Did you name one of your fish Elvis?”
  • Rick, “Um yes, I knew. For as long as I can remember. You really didn’t know that?”
  • Don’t forget Monte’s Jen, homeboy died before we were even born!

Oh my goodness! I don’t remember the last time I laughed SO hard!!!
I haven’t laughed THAT hard in months! I just kept laughing and hyperventilating, teared up from laughing so hard! What a great mid-day break!

Warning to other friends… don’t be surprised when you receive a funny, very random text!

Surprise!

I logged into my account today to look up how to modify some features for a friend with a fantastic blog about her family of 5 with 3 kids (3-9) that are traveling the world for a year! So FUN! Check it out here: https://rustybucketfamily.com/

I started going through my own blog and looking at some of my old posts. Boy did I have fun with this! I have missed blogging for quite a while, and have often thought I should start up again. After today, I just might. I can’t believe I have not written for nearly 6 years! Hard to believe that much time has passed. Nonetheless, at the same time there has been SO many changes and things that we have experienced.

There have been a LOT of fun over the past few years with FANTASTIC Adventures. Heartbreaks and Oh my goodness moments. I might catch you up on a few.

I’m sorry I had to stop writing for a while for some personal reasons, for privacy reasons, and simply working WAY TOO MUCH!

I have written a bunch of book reviews, and everything is supposedly connected between Goodreads & Word Press, but I can not figure out for the life of me why the reviews are not coming over. It does show my reading lists and links on the side menus. If you’d like to see any of my recent reviews, please click the button on the menu. In the meantime, if you know how to fix this, I’d love to hear!

Nonetheless, thanks to those that still follow me; I’ll work on starting to blog again as well. In the meantime, see what my girl Ashley is up to at https://rustybucketfamily.com/

I hope that 2020 brings all of us true 20-20 and the most fantastic year full of Joy, Family, Friends, Faith, Prosperity, Great Reads, Soul moving Music & of course ADVENTURE!

Happy Quotes

Years ago I had a boyfriend who made little strips with motivational quotes on and hid them strategically throughout my house.  This is one of my classic moves.  But it was done for me instead for once.  He numbered all 50 quotes so that if know when I’d found them all.  I have continued to find them since.  Although it’s been quite a while since I had found one.  During this purging stage,  I fully expected to find many of them.  As I’m nearly done,  I’ve been shocked I hadn’t found any.  Last night as I finally have into a chocolate craving I finally found one! Where I found it,  makes me wonder if I accidently threw / gave away a bunch.  Lol Good thing we’re on good terms! Lol thanks for the smile! Thought I’d share.  🙂

The Miracle Product: WD 40

I had a very successful 3 1/2 hours painting the ceiling…  Looks great! Almost done!

I went inside to wash off my brush and roller like a good girl should…  When it started getting even more sticky and the little bit of paint on my hands became a LOT!

Mike  &  Uncle along with my grandma and neighbour Wade all had great laughs,  while Uncle and Mike  helped spray and wipe me down with WD40!

Mike decided he liked the touch of white in my hair and that he really likes my new ‘perfume’.  Lol

Hmph

I now feel like a saved wild animal from an oil spill about to take a bath in dish soap!

I’ve decided I don’t like oil based paint no matter of how in – expensive it is! 😐

Hope you had a good chuckle!

52 Week Money Challenge

So confession. I love Pinterest!

There was a quote I once saw that said something to the following,

“Facebook makes you hate the people you know, and Pinterest makes you adore people you’ve never met.”

I probably completely wrecked the quote. Nonetheless, sadly enough I think this is so true. Pinterest is fascinating and captivating of all the random things you find that are generally very applicable to your interests.

The point of all of this is that I while browsing today, I just found this great little idea for making saving a little easier. I love the simplicity of this, and the reminder of the old parable of something to the effect of would you rather $1,000.00 today, or $1.00 today, $2.00 tomorrow, $4.00 the day after, continuing to double as each day progresses. I think this theory provides a similar concept.

52 Week Money Challenge

In the attached link to the All Things MW Blog the savings concept is that you save $1.00 for week 1, $2.00 for week 2, and so forth until you are at week 52 in which you save $52. By the end of the challenge (52 Weeks) you have saved $1,378.00!! Now this idea she received from someone else, which she states and quotes. This quote is simply too good not to share, for I think it probably hits home with more than myself.

“Kassandra.Moreland stated what inspired her to do this plan: “I am a single parent, and I have worked at my job for 22 years. I just worked 53 hours alone in this pay period and do this all of the time. I decided that this is the year that I will have something to show for working all of those hours instead of just bills left over at the end of the year.I work better if I am held accountable, even in my personal life, so I decided to see how many of my friends would be honest and say they needed help with a structured savings plan, and even if they don’t would they help me. I had no idea that it wold turn into what it has in just the last two hours.”

Here is the chart that was shared on the blog, which they left the disclaimer that they did not create either and to thank the anonymous creator for the great visual.

52 Week Money Challenge

52 Week Money Challenge

So my same challenge to each of you is to also join with me. As I sit here today, I’m wishing I could have started this a few years ago. What a difference it would make. Especially with my recently found status from being Downsized from my full-time position. If I can do this, while looking for new opportunities, can you? I will admit to not always being the best at saving money, for something always comes up and seems to wipe out what little savings I’ve been able to obtain. So in my new commitment and goals, in addition to what I already put away each month I will be sending this savings to another savings account of mine that hasn’t had much in activity in the past few years.

I’m anxious to see how I do at this! I know I’m putting my own accountability on the line here, and I could royally fail. But it’s worth the shot. In my past few goals and successes the past few years, is not blogging about my new goals and ambitions on my way. So here I am. Who’s with me? I’d love to hear who wants to join me in their own small personal victory? Now if you are already great at putting savings away, and want to challenge yourself to a little more, I’d love to hear your ideas!

Review: Debt Cures: “They” Don’t Want You to Know About

Debt Cures: “They” Don’t Want You to Know About by Kevin Trudeau
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed this read. The material was fascinating, informative, and entertaining. I felt that it was well compiled and presented. I’ve found the information within helpful and helping propel me forward as well. I have the print & audio version of this, the audio was definitely more entertaining as Mr. Trudeau expounds extra information, and makes funny commentary. Great read, and helpful. Highly recommend. 🙂

Holy Bible: New Testament: The King James Version by Anonymous
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I’ve read the New Testament a few times, and felt a few months ago, that I wanted to read it again. Always good to do. I love how each time that I read through the scriptures I find new gems, have questions answered, and find new ones. I’m grateful for a guide in my life to help me become a better person.

It was fascinating and fun! Well put together and presented. I’m a girl who loves random facts, figures, stats, and seeing how the world fits together. Really great read, highly recommend! I really need to find out if there are any other books by this author. So fun!

It was ok. I didn’t completely hate it, but I didn’t love it either. I felt it had some good points, and some that were a bit overboard. But it was well presented and flowed well.

Review: Pros and Cons: A Short Story

Pros and Cons: A Short Story
Pros and Cons: A Short Story by Janet Evanovich
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I think I need to read it again. I read it quick and was really distracted….

I’m ecstatic that Janet has a new series out and was excited to see this teaser. It’s obvious that the new series is going to be another fast moving and fun-filled series, with a classic Janet feel. Yet, it came across that Janet & Lee are still trying to find their groove. I’m just grateful it has more of a Stephanie, Diesel & Lizzy or her classic singles, instead of the Husband list. I’m excited to read it all, and I’ll read this one again too. It only took an hour…

Review: Robert B. Parker’s Damned if You Do

Robert B. Parker's Damned if You Do
Robert B. Parker’s Damned if You Do by Michael Brandman
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Well, I judged this book by it’s cover at first, it looked good. My library also said this was book 1. Hmph not so much. It was ok, but I didn’t feel that the characters where well developed or that the book flowed well. I think that it had potential, but ultimately fell short. I was bored with it, grateful it was so short and probably won’t pick up another one.

Review: The Inn at Rose Harbor

The Inn at Rose Harbor
The Inn at Rose Harbor by Debbie Macomber
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

In the past I have not enjoyed Debbie Macomber’s books and I know written a review that did not reflect positively at all. One of my followers, stood up for Ms. Macomber and pleaded with me to give her another chance. A few weeks ago, I found myself desperate for another ‘light’ book to read, this was one of the few available, so I thought I’d give it a chance. I have to say, I really loved it! I was very surprised, and grateful for the uplifting story shared.

I thought in this particular book, her writing was very good. The characters were believable, and lovable, and well formed. I loved that despite the heartbreak and tragedy in the main characters own life, she moves on with life and doesn’t let it beat her. She finds a way to serve and love those other broken souls around her, and vows that everyone who comes through her life, leaves a little bit more healed. I love that.

I really enjoyed this one, and I’m planning on giving some of her other books a chance too. Maybe on the other one, I was in a funk, and projected my own issues.

Review: Notorious Nineteen

Notorious Nineteen
Notorious Nineteen by Janet Evanovich
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I know, in each review of Janet Evanovich I proclaim how much I love her. Well, I do! Each time I crack open another book its like being wrapped in arms of love and life long friendship. It might be the same story with different variables each time. But I don’t really care, I love them! Janet has the ability to make me laugh hysterically and generally harder than nearly anyone else. I love all the crazy characters in Stephanie’s life and they just make my heart swell.

What I really liked about this volume was that we were able to take a huge mysterious chunk out of Ranger’s life and learn so much about him. It was really nice! He’s stayed such a mystery in all of the precursory books. It was fun to see him a little more ‘real’.

Wondering about continuing to read? It’s worth it! 🙂

Review: The Buddha in the Attic

The Buddha in the Attic
The Buddha in the Attic by Julie Otsuka
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This book was chosen for the Book Club Read this month. (http://www.bountifulbookclub.blogspot.com/) I don’t often attend, but usually try to read the book, if it’s available through the Pioneer Library, my main resource for my books. (http://pioneerutah.lib.overdrive.com/B9A44FC8-1126-4EBC-AB38-7E0F204B5EB2/10/50/en/Default.htm) I was pleasantly surprised to find this one available, and it was a quick read. Although, I would not classify it as easy. In fact it was rather heavy.

The story was told from the mindset of the Japanese Mail Order Brides / Picture Brides (kind of reminded me of the Borg on some levels) taking place just prior to Pearl Harbor being bombed. They told of what promises and hopes they had in mind, and their realities, and shattered dreams, they tell of their treatments, and always being on the outside and then move into the suspicion, going into hiding, and then the disappearing.

Overall it was very interesting, really opened my understanding much more. Despite it being a short read, and with the risk of redundancy, it was very heavy and heartbreaking. Nonetheless, it’s a read I recommend just once.

Review: The Book Thief

The Book Thief
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I’m not sure what I had expected when starting to read this book. I honestly didn’t know what it was about, just that it was a popular read and that they made a movie out of it. I was hoping it would be decent, as I often don’t enjoy ‘popular’ books. I have to say I was very pleased with this great read. Another surprise was that it was another telling of the horrors during World Ward II & occupied Germany.

I enjoyed the fact that it was told in a narrative manner from the point of Death, as he jumps all over Europe, collecting souls. Follow the story of a young refugee Leisel, the curious and kind hearted young girl, who simply loves books, her only way to obtain them, was to steal them. Her other great love in life, were the people closest around her.

For whatever reason the past year I have found that I have accidentally picked up a handful of World War II books. I obviously love Historical Fiction and find it very rewarding to continually learn more about us as a people, the good and the very bad, and finding the humanity in the horrid situations.

I really enjoyed the different style of the storytelling. I thought it was well written, flowed well and well worth the read. I highly recommend it. However, towards the end, and points in-between, make sure to have a box of tissues.

Now I can watch the movie… Yes, I’m sure, it’s not as good as the book – it never is.

Jennifer Adventures 2013 in Review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2013 annual report for this blog.

Sorry it was a little late in posting. I can’t believe how busy this year has been already! It’s incredibly rewarding to see how many people care what I write about, and to watch how this blog has grown over the years. This new year I hope to be more regular about posting, and be able to actually write about the things I’m most passionate about – not just book reviews. Thanks for your loyalty and support! Don’t forget to click on seeing the full report. 🙂

Here’s an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 1,300 times in 2013. If it were a cable car, it would take about 22 trips to carry that many people.

Review: Full Body Burden: Growing Up in the Nuclear Shadow of Rocky Flats

Full Body Burden: Growing Up in the Nuclear Shadow of Rocky Flats
Full Body Burden: Growing Up in the Nuclear Shadow of Rocky Flats by Kristen Iversen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Absolutely fabulous. Quite interesting. Everyone needs to read this. There is so much that goes on around us that we have absolutely no clue of what is going on around us half the time, just trusting that the Government would never do anything to hurt us. Strange thing I realized… I lived within wind distance from this facility when my chronic illnesses came to be (Chronic Migraines, Pain and Sinus Infections). This however could have been from the Black Mold but being downwind of a Plutonium Radiation leak. I need to finish writing the full review on this that it really deserves. Fabulous and facinating read that we all need to learn! I will say this though, I became very board at times and it was difficult to carry on.

Review: Ender’s Game

Ender's Game
Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card
My rating: 1 of 5 stars

Honestly I hated it. I know I’m setting myself up for mass amounts of rebuttle about how fantastic this book was. ugh. It sucked. The flow was strange, the writing was confusing and boring. I really don’t like Orson Scott Card, this was the last chance I was giving him. I’m done. I don’t care to fight or argue about my review. Maybe I’m not smart enough to understand Ender’s Game, I’m completely content with that.

Review: Dangerous Refuge

Dangerous Refuge
Dangerous Refuge by Elizabeth Lowell
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I overall really liked this, it was fun, engaging and the suspense was just enough to keep you engaged. The writing and flow was overall good. Some parts were very wordy and seemed to carry on and on unnecessarily. It was mostly really clean there were a few tactfully done intimate scenes, not bad at all, but if you are hyper sensitive, skip those pages. Overall I really enjoyed it!
