So confession. I love Pinterest!
There was a quote I once saw that said something to the following,
“Facebook makes you hate the people you know, and Pinterest makes you adore people you’ve never met.”
I probably completely wrecked the quote. Nonetheless, sadly enough I think this is so true. Pinterest is fascinating and captivating of all the random things you find that are generally very applicable to your interests.
The point of all of this is that I while browsing today, I just found this great little idea for making saving a little easier. I love the simplicity of this, and the reminder of the old parable of something to the effect of would you rather $1,000.00 today, or $1.00 today, $2.00 tomorrow, $4.00 the day after, continuing to double as each day progresses. I think this theory provides a similar concept.
In the attached link to the All Things MW Blog the savings concept is that you save $1.00 for week 1, $2.00 for week 2, and so forth until you are at week 52 in which you save $52. By the end of the challenge (52 Weeks) you have saved $1,378.00!! Now this idea she received from someone else, which she states and quotes. This quote is simply too good not to share, for I think it probably hits home with more than myself.
“Kassandra.Moreland stated what inspired her to do this plan: “I am a single parent, and I have worked at my job for 22 years. I just worked 53 hours alone in this pay period and do this all of the time. I decided that this is the year that I will have something to show for working all of those hours instead of just bills left over at the end of the year.I work better if I am held accountable, even in my personal life, so I decided to see how many of my friends would be honest and say they needed help with a structured savings plan, and even if they don’t would they help me. I had no idea that it wold turn into what it has in just the last two hours.”
Here is the chart that was shared on the blog, which they left the disclaimer that they did not create either and to thank the anonymous creator for the great visual.
So my same challenge to each of you is to also join with me. As I sit here today, I’m wishing I could have started this a few years ago. What a difference it would make. Especially with my recently found status from being Downsized from my full-time position. If I can do this, while looking for new opportunities, can you? I will admit to not always being the best at saving money, for something always comes up and seems to wipe out what little savings I’ve been able to obtain. So in my new commitment and goals, in addition to what I already put away each month I will be sending this savings to another savings account of mine that hasn’t had much in activity in the past few years.
I’m anxious to see how I do at this! I know I’m putting my own accountability on the line here, and I could royally fail. But it’s worth the shot. In my past few goals and successes the past few years, is not blogging about my new goals and ambitions on my way. So here I am. Who’s with me? I’d love to hear who wants to join me in their own small personal victory? Now if you are already great at putting savings away, and want to challenge yourself to a little more, I’d love to hear your ideas!
